About us
Ever thought about a career in Caring for Children and Young People?

Are you caring and sensitive to the needs of others? Are you a good listener and communicator? Can you be sympathetic, patient, friendly and tolerant? Then a career in Caring for Children and Young People may be for you!

You could work for social services, health authorities, private organisations or voluntary agencies. The demand for people working in the youth sector is growing, so there are extensive opportunities.

What training does Springboard Southwark offer?

We offer courses for young people aged 16-24 who wish to work towards an Apprenticeship or Advanced Apprenticeship in Caring for Children and Young People.

What does my course involve?

Your course will involve working towards: an NVQ (Levels 2 or 3), Key Skills, a Technical Certificate, employers rights and responsibilities and off the job training and work experience. If you are doing NVQ Level 3 you will need to be employed.

You will work towards units in:

  • promoting people’s equality, diversity and rights
  • contributing to the protection of children from abuse
  • receiving, transmitting, storing and retrieving information
  • contributing to the development, provision and review of care programmes
  • establishing, sustaining and disengaging from relationships with clients, amongst others.
How often will I need to attend Springboard for training?

You will attend Springboard Southwark one day a week.

How long will it take to gain my qualification?

This depends on the level of course you are on – learners studying NVQ Level 2 could take between 9 - 18 months and NVQ Level 3 about 24 months.

When and how can I join?

Call us on 020 358 0690 and ask to speak with one of the Caring for Children and Young People Team.

Is there any financial help available whilst I am studying?

From 10th April 2006 learners on Apprenticeship or E2E programmes should apply for the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA). You can obtain an application pack by calling 080 810 16 2 19, or by pre-registering on the EMA website.

Here's what one of our Apprentices had to say about their course:

Claire Martin joined the Apprenticeship programme in September 2004. Claire was given a placement at and completed her full Apprenticeship framework in February 2006. Here’s what Claire has to say “There is a lot of support from all members of staff at Springboard Southwark and they are always willing to help us with our work and push us to where we want to be in life…..I have really enjoyed doing my Apprenticeship and have advised friends and family that are interested in doing Child Care to come to Springboard Southwark as I have found this is the best place I have been to and you can get everything you want to achieve there”
