Have you ever thought about a career in business administration?
Do you have good communication skills and enjoy working as part of a team? Are you able to work accurately and neatly? Can you be diplomatic and courteous? Do you have good organisational skills and an interest in using IT? Then a career in Business Administration may be for you!
There are many different business administration opportunities. You could work in local government, the health sector, education, housing, finance, charities, manufacturing – the list is endless!
Most staff are office-based, working 35-37 hours per week. There are opportunities for promotion and further study with many employers.
What training does Springboard Southwark offer? We offer courses for 16-24 year olds, who wish to work towards an Apprenticeship or Advanced Apprenticeship in Business Administration.
What does my course involve?
Your course could involve working towards: an NVQ (Level 2 or 3), Basic Skills, Key Skills, a Technical Certificate, off the job training and work experience. If you are doing NVQ Level 3 you will need to be employed. You will work towards units in communicating information, health and safety, planning and organising work, and preparing and printing documents, amongst others.
How often will I need to attend?
Typically you will attend Springboard one day a week and your work placement four days a week.
How long will it take to gain my qualification?
This depends on the level of course you are on – learners studying NVQ Level 2 could take between 9 - 18 months and NVQ Level 3 about 24 months.
When and how can I join?
Call us on 020 7639 1007 to find out about the opportunities available. At the moment we are having to limit recruitment due to funding restrictions, but we hope to have more spaces available in the near future.
Is there any financial help available whilst I am studying?
From 10th April 2006 learners on Apprenticeship or E2E programmes should apply for the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA). You can obtain an application pack by calling 080 810 16 2 19, or by pre-registering on the EMA website.
Here's what one of our Apprentices had to say about their course:
Kelly is 18 and has just started employment at her placement, Goldsborough Homecare Services. Kelly joined the Springboard E2E programme in August 2005 and progressed to the ESF Pre-Apprenticeship Programme (Work Up Project) where she was given the opportunity to attend the above placement. Kelly then continued to progress onto the full Apprenticeship programme and subsequently was offered employment.
Kelly says “I really appreciate how they (tutors) guided me the right way to a career of my choice which is Administration and found me a nice placement with a nice environment which I enjoy getting up in the morning for….I am now employed by the placement and have recently attended a residential training course increasing my knowledge and skills in Business Administation”.
